Sustainability

We are happy to advise that we have secured a long-term supply of our wool and are busily knitting with certified Australian-grown 20.5 micron Pure Merino Wool.

A scarce and luxuriously soft fibre, Australian Merino is the product of nature. Australian (including Tasmanian) wool growers have consistently produced some of the world’s finest Merino wool, admired for its unique natural qualities.

More than 40% of Tasmania is either World Heritage listed or a National Park, recognising and protecting vast natural wilderness areas. Tasmania boasts some of the world’s cleanest air, pure fresh water and four distinct seasons, providing ideal conditions for growing luxury fine Merino wool.

Happy sheep = good wool.

We source the yarn for our Tuff Mongrel heavy-duty socks from Schoeller Spinning Group in Germany. The ClimaWool® they produce is the best we have found for replicating the qualities of pure wool while adding lightness and longevity, making it a true high-performance yarn.

Schoeller’s hard-earned G.O.T.S and Bluesign® certifications demonstrate their commitment to quality and doing what’s right for the planet.

We are keen recyclers and do our best to recycle as much waste as possible, including cardboard boxes, plastic bags and wool offcuts.

When sending out your Mongrel orders, we use compostable post bags and satchels wherever possible. We are also able to provide wool offcuts for yarn lovers who would like to use them for darning and repairing their Mongrel Socks — all you need to do is ask.
